FM Technologies Microwave Joining Information Sheet
• High Temperature Strength
Joints exhibit strengths comparable to the base material and do not degrade at high
temperature. (The following results obtained from joined SiCf/SiCm
composites.)
Flexural Stength = 138 MPa, tested at room temperature
Flexural Stength = 142 MPa, tested at 1100°C
• Exhibited Toughness
Joints can be tailored to exhibit tough behavior. This is desirable when joining
silicon carbide advanced composites.
• High Thermal Conductivity
The thermal conductivity across the joint
exhibit high thermal conductivity and increases with heat-treatment temperature.
Microwave beam can be steered by optics as a means of localized heating. This is
important for in situ joining and repair.
